Over the last few years, green smoothies have become a frequent staple in our house. That’s especially true when it starts getting warm and I can sit outside with a nice cool drink that’s actually fairly good for me. Fitness has become a big focus for me and this is just another way to take care of my body. You can do it too!
Don’t be afraid of seeing the term green smoothie. Yes, there’s healthy greens in this one but they’re super mild and disappear below the sweet berries and granola. Why forager berry smoothie? You can make this delicious morning treat from store-bought berries but I managed to find some wild raspberries to use. The idea of using something completely provided by nature just makes me giddy.
Place the pieces of your frozen banana and both berries into a blender, top with spinach and pour in milk. I use a bullet blender set a family member got me a few years ago and I absolutely love it for single serve smoothies like this. Blend well, making sure all of the frozen banana bits are well pureed and all of the ingredients are mixed. Pour into a cup. If you're using the bullet blender, you can blend and serve this in the same cup by taking off the blending lid and putting on one of the colored rings or pour it into a special cup and feel fancy. I won't tell.
If you would like to add toppings, have fun with it! For this one I used Nature Valley's protein granola which tastes like honey and my favorite variety of Ocean Spray's dried cranberries (pomegranate). The strawberry on top is a treat for me since it was the last one to come out of the garden last season.
You can drink this as is or add the toppings and indulge with a spoon. If you add an extra banana to thicken the mixture, it also makes a great dip for strawberries and apples. Serve cold and enjoy!
